Glassdoor to Expand Chicago WorkforceTechnology Firm Known for Workplace Reviews Adds 52,000 Square Feet in New Fulton Market BuildingGlassdoor is looking to bulk up its workforce by another 500 people and has signed a long-term lease at West End on Fulton, doubling its downtown Chicago footprint to accommodate its future needs, the company said Friday.
The growth at Glassdoor in Chicago has been rapid. Only 30 people were working in the popular job and recruiting site's Chicago office three years ago. Now the company expects to beef its staff up to 800 in the nation’s third-largest city. That would make Chicago the Mill Valley, California-based firm’s largest office.
Glassdoor, known mostly for its workplace reviews and salary insights gleaned from present and former employees, said it will take two floors, adding up to about 52,000 square feet, at 1375 W. Fulton St. to house up to 400 workers. It will be the first tenant in the 13-story glass-and-brick building, developed by Trammell Crow Co., which is under construction at Fulton and Ogden streets in the Fulton Market district and expected to open next summer.
Next door at 1330 W. Fulton, Glassdoor already has 70,000 square feet on three floors, according to CoStar data. The firm said it will continue to operate there with some 300 workers across its sales, customer success, product, engineering and other teams.
“We’re growing incredibly fast in Chicago and are excited to build upon our presence in Chicago’s Fulton Market district,” Christian Sutherland-Wong, Glassdoor’s president, said in a statement.
“Chicago has quickly grown into one of Glassdoor’s largest employee bases, in large part [because of] the region’s impressive talent pool,” Sutherland-Wong added. “We look forward to adding exciting job opportunities to Chicago’s economy and continuing to build a world-class team that will fuel Glassdoor’s global growth.”
The 11-year-old Glassdoor employs nearly 900 people in seven offices around the world.
For the Record:
Kyle Kamin and Dan Persa of CBRE represented Glassdoor in the transaction, while Sara Spicklemire and Kelsey Scheive of CBRE represented Trammell Crow.
